WE SEEK THE BEST FROM AROUND EUROPE TO BRING OUR VISIONS TO LIFE.
The Reclaimed Wood Factory
Our company would not be what it is today without our wood factory. They have been the core of our collection since the beginning. These craftsmen are experts in their field, so we turned to them to source salvaged wood from 19th century buildings scheduled for demolition around Hungary. We use a multitude of reclaimed wood, including European pine, oak and beech to make our wooden serveware, tabletop accessories and furniture.
At this factory, the people are the true standouts. They have a deep commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability. It is a true pleasure to visit the factory and watch as our products are being made, each craftsman beaming with pride. Sustainability goes further than just the materials we use and our people really embrace and apply this practice into their own private lives. Many of our workers commute by bicycle or ride share each day to get to work, knowing that adopting small eco conscious habits can make a huge impact.
Salvaged wood of all kinds arrives to the factory in truckloads ready to begin the cleaning process. We first ensure all hardware and nails are removed, carefully inspecting each piece entirely. This is one of the most thrilling phases in our process, as you can literally see these 19th century buildings come to life, envisioning the beams in their glory day.
The following phases of our construction process calls for highly trained machine operators as it is incredibly technical. The reclaimed beams are measured and cut specifically to fit in our state of the art machinery that clean and slice the wood into thin planks. We then take these newly cleaned wood planks and fuse them together in a special heat process. After we have created large boards, another specialist oversees the cutting of the boards into the specific products that are slated for production that day. Our carpenters are skilfully trained in ensuring minimal waste during this process, an important part of our brand concept.
Each item is sanded by hand, guaranteeing the perfect finish while remaining true to the beauty of the wood grain. We use a customized wax and oil blend to give the wood a beautiful ‘already used’ patina. Because of their hand-finished nature, our products will only get better looking with time and use.
The Glassblowing Studio
The artisans at our studio are specialized in glassblowing so it was a natural fit to employ their talent and craftsmanship when expanding our collection. Each piece is carefully prepared by hand and handled with the highest attention to detail.
The mouth blowing process begins with placing molten glass at the end of the blowpipe. The artisan carefully rotates the blowpipe while keeping control of the temperature while forcefully blowing air into the glass. This lets the vessel take a hallow sphere shape before placing it into a wooden mold to perfect the form. Once removed from the mold, the glass is cut from the blowpipe and the bottom is flattened and the neck is shaped. The vessel is continuously reheated while additional refinements are made to the shape and form to give it that perfectly imperfect etúHOME touch.
While this degree of craftsmanship makes our pieces more expensive to produce, it does the quality of the materials justice, captures our brand's spirit perfectly and the result is unparalleled.
You know you chose the right place when its people hold the same ideals as you. Our glassblowers value the slow life and tradition, and are able to incorporate these principals into their craft. They take the phrase "perfectly imperfect" seriously and always insist that each piece they blow has just the right amount of imperfections, conjuring images of a relic from an era gone by.
